I realise this is a catch 22 question but is there a recognised mimimum course that fire wardens should have completed prior to commencement of their duties. I did recal that IOSH did a module in fire management but can no longer find it.

I suggest contacting your local fire service as they generally can offer a very good one day seminar. I attended one run by the South Wales Fire Brigade that was excellent.

Your local Fire Service may well offer a Fire Warden course; however, YOU have the duty to ensure that it is relevant to your premises, emergency procedures and whatever you do there!
Ideally, this type of course should be in-house and very closely integrated with your existing Emergency Response Procedures to ensure that there isn't a training, knowledge or expectation gap.

Good response Frank - I agree.
It gives closer contact with the company employees and can answer local questions.
