I would expect them to have professional indemnity insurance (if they are selling advice) or product liability insurance (if they are selling a product). Anyone can make a mistake so operating without insurance is quite a gamble.

Thanks Paul
as you say professional indemnity and product liability are covered but this is an unusual case where they provide a total maintenance regime for cooling systems and it could be that the product is fine and the advice is fine but that the execution of the contract fails in which case I don't think any of the above would apply - it could be that Public Liability insurance is sufficient but then I need to be sure that the financail coverage is adequate. I guess that this is the other question to people who deal with other water treatment contractors - what level of insurance is appropirate in the case of a Legionella outbreak.
I must stress your point Paul I have no concerns what so ever with the current provider but mistakes can happen - that is the whole point of insurance.
thanks
Martin
