We have recently outsourced our workshop maintenance, which includes all lifting equipment. We are trying to set guidelines for the intervals of inspection and testing of all lifting equipment. Whilst we are aware of British Standard 7121 would be interested in industry best practice.

If you are referring to vehicle workshops the HSE have specific guidance:
Health and safety in motor vehicle repair (HSG67)
Health and safety in tyre and exhaust fitting premises (HSG62)
LOLER regulations and guidance, etc is produced in L113 and there is a CRR which may be of interest: http://www.hse.gov.uk/re...rr_pdf/2002/crr02429.pdf

Chris.
In general a thought examination and test ect whemn first put into use, marking of max weights on all lifting equipment and thereafter six monthly inspections for man-riding and twelve monthly inspections thereafter.
Register of all lifting equipment with:
- Manufacturer
- Type
- Serial No
- Location
- Inspection dates
- Copies of inspection certs
All staff trained to perform pre-use inspections of equipment and how to use correctly, and employ correct procedures for lifting operations, including application of control measures from risk assessments and follow method statements etc....
Internal audits to ensure external assessors are doing the job employed to do, and include process within H&S management systems and/or quality system, maintain records...
