my company uses a lot of general risk assessments (I hate them) before the job starts (construction) the risk assessment is put into the site safety file, once the control measures are entered there does'nt seem to be a close off section, i.e. what happens next after the control measures are put in place.
should someone sign it off, anyone got views on this

Jim,
If an RA has been done on any task/process which results in controls needing to be put in place, then yes these need to be signed off and a review of the RA to ensure no additional hazards have been introduced and that the controls measures have the intended desired effect.........
hope this helps
regards
Shaun

The nature of the job your Risk Assessing may need a Permit to Work, if you take that into consideration you have the'closure' built into the sytem of work being undertaken.

Once you have achieved evidence of the risks and controls being conveyed to those who will be affected (eg signing), won't the means by which you seek to ensure compliance range from PTWs (for the more critical) through signed inspections and supervision to site monitoring as appropriate?
