Posted By J Knight 'Fire safety an employers guide' says that a dooway of 750 mm width is suitable for up to 40 people per minute (has to be 800 mm if wheelchairs are involved), so four or five people shouldn't be an issue. The number of fire exits depends on a number of factors, only one of which is door width; other factors include travel distance, presence of stairs etc; location of fire hazard rooms and so on. www.fire.org.uk has a link to an online version of 'Fire safety an employers guide', John

Posted By shaun mckeever A single escape route is acceptable where:- i. travel distance does not exceed 18m (In shop and commercial premises. Travel distance will differ depending on type of premise), and no one room has an occupant capacity of more than 60 people. ii. a storey with an occupant capacity of not more than 60 people, where the limits on travel distance in one direction only are satisfied. Information is from Building Regulations Approved Document 'B' Fire Safety. Follow this link http://www.odpm.gov.uk/s...age/odpm_breg_027756.pdf and go to page 38 of 159. Hopefully this will help to answer your question.
