Posted By Zyggy Turek Dean, apologies if you already have this publication, but if not, get a copy of "New & expectant mothers at work" - a guide for employers - HS(G)122 - revised 2000.

Posted By Diane Thomason And would recommend that you ask her to get a medical opinion from her GP, midwife or an occupational health physician. This medical opinion should be the most important factor in the risk assessment.

Posted By Steve Conway Dean,
the last bit of advice is the right approach, but you may find they recommend the individual has control over their work rate and be given the opportunity to take more and/or longer breaks. Look at the seating - a chair with a forward tilting seat may be helpful. It should have wheels to enable easy of movement without twisting - make sure its not on a smooth surface. Materials and equipment controls should be within easy reach. Also ask what aggravates the sciatica and ask for her suggestions.
