Posted By Tracey Spyve Can anyone confirm that Fixed Electrical Installations need to be tested every 5 years by a competent person as per the above BS? I've got it in my head that it's 5 years, but I don't have access to this standard. Any help will be appreciated.

Posted By Ken Parkes Hi Tracey, you will need to look at IEE Guidance note 3. It depends on type of installation, its use and operation. Offices in general will be 5 years.

Posted By Lawrence Hughes Well I happen to have BS7671:2001 sat next to my desk, and had been wondering the same question recently, so a quick look and it does not appear to specify the 5 year rule in section 7 Chapter 73 Periodic Inspection & Testing 732 Frequency of Inspection and testing 732-01-01 summarising: frequency based on type of installation & use, frequency & quality of maintenance and external influences. 732-01-02 summarising: can replace periodic if you're rigorous about monitoring and maintenance, skilled persons, with records. reference in the appendix 6 and 713-01-01 to IEE guidance note 3
