Posted By chrissie I wondered if anyone had a sample risk assessment for use of hoisting indivduals to and from wheelchairs and during personal care. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Posted By J Knight Hi Chrissie, I don't actually have any RAs like this, though I do see a lot of them. You need to include factors such as the skin integrity of the person being hoisted, any medical conditions (such as osteoporosis) which might have a bearing, any cognitive or behavioural complications, tendency to spasmodic or uncontrolled movements and so on. I think one of the biggest issues I have with most of our RAs is the statement 'two to hoist'. What does this mean; one carer is doing the work while the other is whistling the national anthem? Some level of detail is needed. The most difficult part of such operations is usually placing the sling prior to and removing after the move, John
