A tragic loss to the health and safety profession.

As an experienced construction safety professional I am saddened to learn of the tragic loss of life of a health and safety advisor following an accident this week at a Manchester building site.
The advisor who died at the site on Quay Street in Manchester city centre has been named as Christopher Fallon-Turner, from Culcheth in Warrington.
The 39-year-old died on Monday 21 March when a pallet load of concrete blocks fell 15 floors on top of him.
This unfortunate news comes at a time when the construction industry has pledged to do more to cut the number of fatalities in the industry in line with the Revitalising Health and Safety initiative targets. I ask those who read this to spare a thought for Christopher and his family and to endeavour through everything that we do as professionals to prevent accidents and to save lives regardless of where we may choose to work.

That is terrible news.
How extremely sad that someone who has chosen a profession in which to safeguard life should become a victim of it. The undoubted avoidability of the event just makes it worse.
Our thoughts are with his heartbroken family at this tragic time.

Sadly people are killed at work –
This case is particularly sad, as the guy had been instrumental in reducing the number of accidents on this site after the previous 2 fatalities.
Our thoughts go out to his family.

Geoff
According to the article I read, it stated that this guy had been called due to a death last year and the year before.
As I stated earlier, this guy had drastically reduced the accidents on this site.
A sad loss indeed.

My thoughts also go out to his family. A very sad situation....
If he was a member of IOSH would it not be appropriate for us to send some flowers etc to his family. I would be happy to contribute if IOSH wish to do something.
Perhaps Hazel could comment......

IOSH have a benevolent fund, which many people contribute to, I cannot see why his professional body cannot do something.
