Posted By TBC Help required - I have found the HSE site relating to the full regs etc., but some time ago (years) I was able to view a site with pretty drawings showing seperation of storage areas and drums etc. and can't seem to find it now. Can anyone point me in the direction of an internet site showing layouts of storage areas with seperation distances of substances? Appreciate any help. Thanks

Posted By Ron Hunter All these pics used to be in the relevant HSE guidance HSG51? Cost you £9.50 though!

Posted By Dave Daniel As already noted - all the info is in the HSE's guidance note. I had a very interesting site visit/meeting with the HSE last year where it was explained that guidance on zoning etc. could be obtained from existing HSE publications, but because they had no plans to re-write these, I pointed out you'd have to work out yourself which bits were relevent under DSEAR since all of the references were to the old Regs, and of course the guidance did not explain how to apply the new DSEAR requirements. At this point the HSE seemed somewhat embarrassed - i.e even more than they already were. It was already clear they had no real idea how to apply zoning to many situations, and avoided this issue. Depressing stuff I know. There seems to be no interest in the HSE in even trying to apply these Regs.

Posted By CHRISTOPHER HAYWARD RE: previous posting in this thread Whilst the posting is a fair reflection of the chaos which surrounds these regulations, even for the initiated, it is worth noting that the HSE have issued 188 notices under DSEAR.

Posted By Paul Mahoney I found the following good practice guidance document from the Commission helpful. COMMUNICATION FROM THE COMMISSION concerning the non-binding guide of good practice for implementing Directive 1999/92/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on minimum requirements for improving the safety and health protection of workers potentially at risk from explosive atmospheres.
