Can anyone assist-the company I work for regularly use 'cherry pickers' for high level access, I have been advised that our maintenance engineers require a licence to use these vehicles, is this true?

The MEWP operator needs to be trained and competent (to operate and inspect the MEWP). One way of doing this is by getting them accredited training in which case they receive a certificate. This is not a license as such but may be what is being referred to. Various schemes are available, just make sure they are accredited. Also note that separate training is required for scissor lifts and articulated booms. I would advise you make sure the operators are competent and trained as in any investigation following a MEWP accident the first thing looked at will be Training and competencey in tandem with a RA and SWP.

Hi,
I have experienced the same problem in the past and researched training etc. There are loads of companies carrying out the training. I went for the IPAF course which is largely recognised. I used a compnay called "Facelift" 0800 521595 who run courses and hire equipment nationally. The 1 day course is £150 including IPAF registration. There are a selection of courses available for whatever model of platform you want to use e.g. twin boom, sissor lift, trailer mount, etc. Probably best to check with the operators before booking a course for a machine they dont use. We went for trailer mount and boom course. The operatives then get a card and certification lats for 5 years.
Hope this helps.
Good luck
