Posted By Jim-F we are a construction company with around 110 operatives, we have no health surveillance programme in place at the moment but are wishing to implement one. Where do we start we dont want screen all 110 of them as we feel it might open a can of worms, I was thinking of starting with a questionare to gauge the reaction. clearly we dont want saddled with another company's shortcomings but wish to operate with in the legislation

Posted By Bev Jim Whatever you do, this is going to be a can of worms! If you create a questionnaire, you will get back answers you don't want anyway, which will lead you back to health screening. You will have to ask things like: do you use vibrating tools? Do you work on/in the vicinity of noisy equipment/processess? Does your job involve manual handling? You are only going to get back the answers you already know to these questions! You should at least consider health screening for HAVS where appropriate and probably all your operatives should have their hearing tested. Go by COSHH assessments for hazardous substances if this applies to your workforce. Questionnaires are useful for new employees but are no substitute for health screening. Good luck!
