Posted By M MacDonald Hi, Our H&S Advisor left the company and needs replaced. I have considered a few options with regards to replacing him: * hire a new H & S rep on a parti time basis (as not a massive facility) * outsource * nominate a current employee (everyone already has too much to do) * ask the Ants to do it I have even asked the factory next door if we could share their H&S as they are downsizing (thought it would save a job!). Being nw to all this are there any other options? Thanks, Michelle

Posted By TBC Great idea to have a dedicated part-timer, if that's all you can afford. Regards time involved and salary - difficult to say without a full picture of what's in place and the co-operative attitude of the current workforce. Another thing that comes into play is what level of qualification are you looking for? NEBOSH Cert level or above, not that those higher qualifications mean you'll get a more suitable candidate. Try looking on the web sites for an idea of pay etc. www.monster.co.uk www.totaljobs.com Have you also thought about a division of responsibilities for H&S etc among the current workforce with a bit of training or would that be too difficult to organise? Good luck in your search.

Posted By Liam Mc Conalogue You may wish to opt for a consultant to provide you with H&S services, and thus not employing anyone full-time- more of a as-and-when basis. Drop me an email if you require any further info. Regards, Liam

Posted By Nigel Singleton BSc Might I remind all those budding consultants out there of the need to remind their client about Regulation 7(8) of the Management of Health & safety at Work Regulations which states 'Where there is a competent person in the employer's employment, that person shall be appointed for the purposes of paragraph (1) in preference to a competent person not in his employment.' Paragraph 1 being the duty of the employer to appoint a competent person to assist in the undertaking of safety functions.
