Posted By Thomas Elliott Hi all, I am looking for a bit of advice please.... We are about to derive a new strategy to combat stress in the workplace and the foundation of this will be highlighted from subsequent Risk Assessments. Can anyone advise me on a more topic specific Risk Assessment process as the majority of our risk assessments are of a generic format. Thanks in advance. Thomas

Posted By Neil Koskie Hi Thomas There is a specific risk assessment for stress on the HSE website. The address is: www.hse.gov.uk/stress/standards/downloads.htm It is a series of tick box questions designed to be filled by the individual based on the HSE's stress management standards. Once all the questions have been answered, an excel based tool works out how stressed individuals are based on the management standards. Hope this helps Neil

Posted By Kieran J Duignan Thomas While you enquire about 'a more topic specific Risk Assessment process' you don't exactly say what you mean by a Risk Assessment about stress that is 'more' topic-specific. If you really want to try the state- of-the-art tool for assessing the quality of stress at work, try the Apter Motivation Profiling System and read the associated research in 'Stress & Health. A Reversal Theory Perspective', Svebak, S & Apter, M J, Taylor & Francis, 1997. They blow away the cobwebs from the guidance on work-related stress published by the HSE, Cary Cooper and Tom Cox. Apter's approach is worth the effort. It can enable you to face realities that many people find work activities stressful much of the time - but the same people also find the same realities fulfilling at least some of the time.

Posted By Thomas Elliott Hi folks, Thanks for the input, much appreciated. When I mentioned a 'more' topic specific I just meant is there a form or process that anyone could suggest that relates specifically to stress rather than a generic format for all risks. Sorry should have been more clear. I've managed to get a copy of the 'Work Positive' pack. Thanks again Thomas
