Just after some advice from colleagues whose organisations have public toilets (local authorities, NHS, supermarket chains, rail stations etc).
Has anyone used a blue light in their public toilets to deter drug users from injecting and disposing of their needles in such areas? Apparenlty it makes it difficult to see the veins.
Any other information on this - i.e. does it work?, or other strategies to deter IV drug use would be gratefully recieved.

I am sure that this has been discussed before on this forum; try a search.

Apparently, drug users get round the use of UV lighting in toilets by tracing along their vein with a biro before they go in.

We suffered from drug users in our toilets, and stairways terribly. Since installing blue lights, not a druggie to be seen, they're great and not unpleasant on the eye to those just looking to pass through. You are correct when you say they work through making it difficult to see veins.
I cannot suggest a more effective realistic and affordable approach.

We use UV light in some of our detained / found property stores to identify stolen goods and articles without any problems.
