Posted By John Bridges Good Afternoon all We require a scaffold to be errected which may be up for some 18 months or so. The structure is for the sole purpose of protecting pedestrians from small particles of building materials which have begun to fall from a building face (it will have no working platforms, and will not be used for any work at all (apart from the initial errection and dismantling) My question is will the scaffold be subject to regular 7 day inspections. I appreciate it will be subject to an initial inspection, then after bad weather etc, but am unsure of the regularity of subsequent inspections. Any help greatly appreciated !! Thanks John

Posted By Martin Daly Ther must be no means of access and the scaffold clearly signed that it is not for use. Then just inspect after bad weather or before any use. yours Martin Daly

Posted By Chris Pope It is good risk management (by that I mean business risk) to ask the scaffolders, who should be competent to advise, to offer you an inspection service at what they deem to be appropriate intervals.

Posted By RP Prior to first use ; A minimum of 7 day intervals (based on risk); After any event likely to affect its strength or stability; After any alterations or additions; And any other time where there is foreseeable risks to health and safety; A record is made and submitted to the client within 24 hours of the inspection and records kept for a minimum of 3 months. These records must be made available to intersted parties, ie, HSE, Contractors working on it, etc. REF: Construction (Health Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1996. Also see HSE website and search for 'scaffolding' That was a 10 mark question in Dip1....
