'Frustration'
I, probably like thousands of others follow interesting 'threads', not always contributing, since we admire, from a distance, the wealth of knowledge others tender on our behalves.
BUT, I have just sought to view all responses to the thread on Paper Mills, and find myself 'locked out' of the thread; I am unable, with one hit, to view all the responses. Now I speed read and am selective as to what I read. But having been locked out, then if I wish to view the 35, undoubtedly excellent responses then, I'll have to open each one individually - this will take probably 30 minutes, say £500 of my exceedingly valuable time!
Thus could you please re-open this thread.
Russell
As for the 'loo roll' epic, an excellent saga, which stimulates the blood! And from which I hope we [and IOSH formally} are able to generate numerous letters to the Times, Telegraph etc on the subject - re: a sense of proportion has to be established, before say JC, and his followers, takes over the world! However, I digress.
Martin - you do an excellent job - but something about how one wields a sword, comes to mind!

I agree. When I do a search and it brings up old threads, I have to look at each response one by one. I'd like to be able to "view all", even though the thread is closed.

For the paper mills thread you only need to read the first few postings. ALL of the rest were requests for copies, better handled by e-mailing the poster direct. Martin's judgment and advice were correct.
As for old threads being "locked" yes, that is a problem.

Russell,
The moderating team do not discuss publicly the reason why actions are taken. I can assure you however that it is always a team decision. The response already given is appreciated by the team.
With regard to the non availability of viewing all responses, I was not aware of the problem until now. I will however refer it to the website co-ordinators after the weekend to see if the problem can be fixed in the future during an updating.

Is there an appeal procedure Martin if someone disputes the reason for having a thread 'eliminated'?

All
I can't see how a thread can be allowed in the first place and then subsequently "locked" when someone in charge thinks that the rest of us shouldn't be able to get involved for one reason or another - the reason we know not!!
Why is that??
Can someone explain please??
I had previously wondered about this but hadn't raised it as an issue but now that someone has..............................is it censorship or what??

I wouldn't call it censorship, which is really depriving people of information because you think it is not good for them to have it. Some threads have been removed because they infringed the guidlines. Others are "locked" when, in the moderators' opinion we arejust wasting space (and costing money to those paying for their phone cals)
You will notice that the "loo rolls" thread is still up and not locked. The original subject may have seemed trivial to some but the person who posted it had some legitimate professional concerns and a number of us felt able to contribute (mainly in a professional manner)
The one time I had a thread removed the moderator sent me an e-mail explaining the error of my ways (I had infringed the guidlines). I accepted the explanation and apologised.
