Posted By CHRISTOPHER HAYWARD Two contributors to this forum "appear" to have sent me zip files today which I have no intention of opening. If they are genuine files, the senders will know who are they are and they might like to make contact to explain. Either way the files are off to Cyber land Valhalla for now. Kind Regards Chris

Posted By Nigel Singleton BSc It is possible that the viruses are actually not from the contributors, but are spoof emails instead which just appear to have come from the IOSH member. Check symantec's web site

Posted By TBC Nowhere is safe these days from these idiots who get a sick pleasure from causing problems for everyone. Keep a good virus checker installed.

Posted By David J Bristow Hi Christopher I received an attachment from someone I was not familiar with – I sent them am email requesting them to explain what the attached document was and what they did for a living. Back came a reply that they were a Health and Safety Consultant but did not explain what the document was – Deleted said attachment and sent the person an email stating I had deleted their message as it contained a virus – back came the reply that they had not sent any attachments to me. So there you have it. – could have come from the IOSH site or maybe not – just shows we have to vigilant. Regards David B

Posted By J Knight I had a spate of message from messagelabs telling me that I had sent emails to people I had never heard of which contained viruses. This was caused by worms, which take email addresses from people's address books and head up their own outgoing messages using the purloined information. The reason I now hide my email address on this forum is because of this (since forums can also be robbed in similar ways, either by webbots or phishers) and because I really don't need Cialis, second hand JCBs or cheap Microsoft software. Either way the people who 'sent' you the emails almost certainly have no idea of what they are supposed to have done, John

Posted By John Webster I regularly receive e-mail for all sorts of stuff, some with highly dubious attachments, from......myself!! Others must also get mail purporting to come from me judging by the number of "delivery refused" messages I receive. Unfortunately, once you have "published" your e-mail address on the internet there is no way of stopping this, short of changing address. As my other "job" is a guest house proprietor, my e-mail address is listed in numerous internet directories. Result. Between 30 and 70 junk mailings DAILY, mostly from addresses belonging to people who have no idea their address has been hijacked.
