Anyone know the recognised method of disposal or options, and is there any health risks to those handling the wood.

Tim,
Woodworm is in fact Anobium punctatum (the common furniture beetle). It poses no risk to human health.
The adult beetle emerges between April and September (causing holes in the wood), mates and lays her eggs in the wood, before dying in a matter of days.
The wood can be disposed of as the (previous person mentioned) by burning, chipping or sent to landfill.
