Posted By Willie Hi All I am looking for foot protection for visitors to a plant. Rather than supply various sizes of shoes and deal with hygiene issues, I was wondering if any body has come across a practical alternative Willie

Posted By steven bentham Do the same as when you go to the bowling alley, supply safety shoes and spray a disinfectant.

Posted By Carrie Ellerby We had a similar issue where I would walk down the shop floor and see visitors in riduculously high heel stillettos or sandals, etc! Rather than supply shoes (as we don't require steel toe caps, etc.) I informed everyone who may have visitors to site to inform potential visitors that sensible footwear is essential. We also have a visitor procedure at reception which states that in order to go on the shop floor their footwear must be sensible.

Posted By Barry Cooper We have a supply of safety footwear and provide disposable over shoe protectors that you slip onto the feet before putting on the shoes.

Posted By Frank Hallett The best answer is to not let unprotected persons of any sort walk in an area that you have decided is not sufficiently safe without suitable foot protection. Anything else is fiddling with a symptom and not dealing with the real issue - why is it necessary for people without foot PPE to access the shop-floor? Frank Hallett

Posted By Barry Cooper We also have a procedure that visitors can enter the workshops provided they keep to the safe visitor pedestrian route, as there is no risk of foot injury (they will also be accompnaied at all times). The wearing of safety footwear should be appropriate to the risk, not just for the sake of wearing it. The only time they need safety footwear is if they are actually entering the work area, which normally they are not.
