Posted By J Knight Just did a residential course with Key Consultancy for exactly the same thing. Whether it's worth it I think depends. IEMA have an open book exam which you can enter on the net, and I suggest you look at that if you're already actively engaged in environmental work; I wasn't so I needed the tuition, but some of the delegates on my course cetainly expressed regrets at sitting through a course when they felt they would have passed the open book exam with their existing knowledge and experience. Not knocking Key, the course was good, and I wasn't the only person there who would never have got through without guidance; it depends on where you feel you are, I suppose. Delegates came from a range of industries, from services to refining to double glazing to chocolate manufacture & others; some of these companies were household name big brand PLCs so I guess I would say that Associate membership of IEMA is widely recognised in a range of industries as conferring necessary status and value, John

Posted By Carrie Ellerby I would say that any company knowing anything about environmental management would recognise IEMA membership. I believe that you can do a five day auditor course and get membership that way. I did the course a couple of years ago but never followed up on membership.

Posted By Arran Linton - Smith Paul, I passed the IEMA open book assessment last year. I did this without attending a course, however IEMA do provide (I think it is free) a revision courses for Affiliate Members. I found the open book assessment possibly more useful than a five day course because you had to be resourceful in order to obtain the right information. Hyde and Reeve’s book ‘Essentials of environmental management’ also helped.
