Posted By Melanie Black I was wondering if anybody had purchased/used a 4 in 1 environment tester? The type I'm looking at measures light, sound, humidity and temperature. The model is a Peak Tech 5035, and is reasonably priced at £69.99 - but are they any good??!! Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks, Mel

Posted By Mark Eden A good tool to act as an indicator that you may have a problem, but - there's always a BUT - can not be used as an accurate measure as they can't be calibrated. So if you want specific measurments you will have to use specific metres. Another point is you get what you pay for !

Posted By Karen Todd Hi Melanie, I got my 4-in-1 environment meter from Maplin for £29.99 (though it is now £69.99 on their website) - I have seen others selling the exact same one for up to £270. ATP Instruments also sell them, and although I didn't buy mine from them they calibrated it for me - I think it was £80 + carriage and I was very pleased with the service from ATP. Excellent gadget, though for the sound I use it as an indicator only and if there was a possible noise problem then I would get someone more competent with a proper noise level meter to investigate further. I was really pleased with mine - came in a little carry case with foam block inside to hold all the bits & pieces, and even a spare battery! Have seen Maplin selling all kinds of useful gadgets very cheaply that you could buy from them and get calibrated elsewhere. Regards, Karen P.S. I have no association with either ATP or Maplin.

Posted By Melanie Black Thanks Karen, I've just had a look on Maplin's website and there's one on there for £39.99. I just want to use it to give me an indication if there are any problems with noise etc, like you I'm not expecting it to give me 100% accurate results. I think at that price it's a bit of a bargain!!!! (I hope mine comes with a fancy carry case :) Thanks, Mel

Posted By Mark Talbot As long as you are buying with the right expectations [you appear to be] they are good value. Even uncalibrated they can give you an idication of conditions - but, and it is a big but - please don't rely on it in boarderline cases where there are health issues at stake. Even the best quality meters are becoming reasonable in cost compared to losing an employee to doctor appointments, lost days, or to costly independent investigations. Mark

Posted By Gareth Richards I purchased one from SKC, I use it as an indicator for high noise levels and low light levels, if I deemed there was a problem then I would have to get a specialist reading with equipment that has been calibrated for that purpose, I think its a useful piece of equipment for the beginner.
