Does anyone have any ideas as to personal performance indicators as a measure of the success of a developing HSEQ manager?

A fair and reasonable profile of KPIs depends on a range of factors. They include:
a. the purposes of the performance management system
b. the degree of sophistication of the performance management system in the firm
b. the degree of sophistication and experience of the individual employee and of his line management
Valid and useful KPIs emerge from negotiation between a manager and his/her subordinates. To import them from another setting is inviting trouble.
The CIPD has published some useful guidance on the matter

Emma,
Having developed and guided the integration of health and safety management systems with business strategy, operational management and performance measurement systems - I have learnt that developing HSE KPI's - and using them correctly can prove to be very useful in the management of human capital.
If there is one truism that I have encountered in relation to the successful use of HSE KPIs is that if the organisation decides to adopt this system of performance management, employees with delegated responsibilities (senior and middle management) should also have HSE KPIs built into their appraisals. A definitive link exists between the HSE Professionals' and managers/supervisors KPI's. Ignoring this link will reduce your HSEQ Managers appraisal to yet another paperbased exercise.
Hope this helps. You are welcome to email me if you would like to discuss.
