Main health and safety issues regarding Housing Associations

All,
I am interested in a Health and Safety Officer role for a Housing Association.
Although I have several years experience and am qualified to Gen Cert in H and S, I have no experience in this sector.
I can envisage some questions being asked in the interview regarding the main issues relating to this sector and as such have carried out some research and have discovered several issues.
Will others in this sector point me in the right direction to source some more so that I may compare notes.
Any advice gratefully recieved.
Thanks
Kinnikin

I have a client who is a housing association, so I have some idea. Off the top of my head, the main issues are:
Housing stock: Asbestos, Legionella, Electricity, Gas, Maintenance etc.
Housing schemes: Communal areas, bin stores, slips trips and falls, elderly residents etc. etc.
Offices: Many deal with residents so violence is a big problem, call centres, DSE, etc.
Janitors: Work at heights, chemicals, maintenance etc.
Hope this gives you some thoughts to get you started.
Regards
Nick

There are housing associations and housing associations In addition to the list already given I think you should be aware that I worked for a HA (indeed started my career in H&S with them) for 7 years; the HA in question does nothing but provide care & support for people with learning difficulties, so my role was intimately bound up in H&S in care delivery. There are other such specialist HAs out there, and many of the general HAs (such as SYHA and NBHA) are also involved in the care & other specialist sectors,

I think that Nick has summed up most of the primary themes.
Fire is also an issue, particularly arson prevention.
If rejeneration of the area is high on the organisations agenda then knowledge of CDM.
Try to find out it they have their own maintainance teams or if they contract in.
Part P of the building regs and how to implements in this environment, trades colleagues being exposed to passive smoking in tennants properties, along with work at height are hot topics in the sector at the moment as well.
One other point, the never failing ability of tennants to generated problems no matter how many obstacles and controls are put in their way
Good luck
please feel free to email me direct with any questions
