Hi,
One of our men in the Parks section have commented on loading a pedestrain mowers onto the back of a vehicle. Ramps are provided which are 10ft in length for the mower to be power driven onto the back of the vehicle which is approximately 4ft high. An assessment has been done and it has been deemed a safe way of loading but this one chap has a problem with it.
I haven't spoken to him as yet as he's on holiday, but I'm due to meet him on Tuesday.
Can I ask for opinions and what methods other companies have.
Thanks
Emma.

Emma when he returns from leave it would be intersting to know if his problem is working at height with out protection or the movement of the machinery up / down the ramp.
If it is the work at height issue then perhaps the mowers can be controlled remotly for this operation. We have remotely controlled mini road rollers, this would remove the work at height issue.

Or indeed, whether his issue is the weight of the ramps themselves....I did a man. han. practical course and assessment for Parks concerning exactly your problem....listened to the concerns of the parks lads and, when attempting what they were expected to do, found that each ramp weighed more than the mower!!!!
To cut risky handling by two thirds, I agreed with the lads, that it was better for two people to lift the mower on....and, before anyone starts....secure blade/s and other rotational parts, isolate controls, allow to cool, watch for fuel etc. etc....What was actually advised though was the provision of vans/trucks with tail lifts, of which there was a shortage....
I wonder how many read to the end before posting a 'what do you mean lift the mower?' comment!

Following on from the first answer, could you use an electric winch, with a remote control, to pull the mower up the ramps - could be used to lift the ramps as well.
