I have been informed (??) that a Southern England LA has introduced a "non-white" ResusciAnnie (as well as the traditional type)in their first aid training.
Is there such a thing?
Does it really matter?
Is it neccessary?
Is this a wind up or has PC been allowed to go a new extreme?

Hi
Get a catalogue from adam rouilly 01795 471378
They have PC annies, white and otherwise. Its an interesting catalogue, aimed at the medical profession, so don't look at it over your dinner, blood n guts etc.
Linda.

I am after a black, one-legged, diabetic, blind, & lesbian (bought up in a broken, single parent home and educated in an inner city) resussy Anne/Andrew to comply with PC thinking.
Is there one??

You'll be lucky to find a girl called Andrew (lesbian or otherwise) though I did work with a girl called Andy (Andrea)
The perfect solution would be a resussy with no skin at all - a bit off putting though:-P

Messy--which leg and which eye 'cos the catalogue need a spec.
You will need to pay more for this though.
The broken home --------the catalogue does second hand models
The lesbian model--------------well, I thought the Annies were multi functional so that there could be no confusion.
Anyway my view is that allowing this kind of "choice" only adds to racial tensions in society. The people that allow and demand "choice" may not be trustworthy in a real first aid emergency situation if it were down to the colour of someones skin.
I'm a "put the Golly back on the jar kind of guy, it makes no difference to me.

Sorry peeps, I can't see the problem.
If I was being told that I can only have an Afro-Carabian [or Asian, or similar] i might say it was a pc issue.
However, if by having one or two different Annies I can mirror life [and likely patients], and desensitise people to appearance, then why not?
I am of the generation that grew up in a community with very little ethnic diversity, but now I work in London and I think I welcome this option [because it is still an option for the vast majority of us].
The very fact that this is here for discussion shows that as a society we are not yet oblivious to the issue - and that is in no way meant as a slight to anyone wanting to discuss it. I just mean that in a few years time I hope we all say "so what?".
Annie was [so I understand] 'modelled' on a young woman who drowned in a river. Had she been from a different background maybe the doll would have been different anyway?

Surely it makes no odds - first aiders could be called on to carry out first aid on any gender, age, race, etc.
Do the makers think that if you practise on a white Annie that you wouldn't be able to transfer your skills to a non-white Andrew?
Bizarre.

So, Mark, Annie wasn't that attractive anyway.
Still, she could have been a frog which wouldn't have mattered to me either cos I've kissed a few of them in my time!
Its nice out isn't it?

I suppose it was inevitable that this would turn into the usual friday afternoon thread!!
Why don't they just paint them green and be done with it. Perhaps they should make the faces and bodies a bit different so you can't tell the sex either. I've got some colleagues they could use as the models.

Definately not green, it would upset the environmentalists.
It could though prevent an interplanetary invation if it were discovered that we were trying to create a new species

Sorry to be the bearer of PC news, there really are two different "coloured" resus dollies.
I have them in each colour - the main advantage of the darker dudes is that they don't end looking grubby when used loads.
I hope noboby has been offended by the comments made above, if you have i apologise now.
Have a lovely weekend.
