Looking for somewhere to check out fire doors and what constitutes a fire door and what does not.
For example a new portakabin for people to work in has been constructed. What doors are fire doors and how would I check?
New offices, same question. Which are fire doors and what source of regulations ACOP can I refer to?
Thanks folks

Hi Jason,
The BS standard you need is 476 Part 8. There are various requirements needed to fufill 1/2 hour fire resistance, and 1 hour fire resistance.
On doors already installed if look on the hinge side there is sometimes a small round indent or sticker which the company will afix to the door to confirm that it is 1/2 fire resistance.
Hope this is of some help.
Regards.

Just a thought, if it's a new Portacabin, surely the suppliers/installers will be ble to tell you.
Similarly, an architect/builder should give you a clue if it's a new build

You've all correctly identified the BS that defines the various types of fire door but not how and where they should be sited. For instance, from a fire safety point of view it really doesn't matter what the final exit door might consist of - but any door that gives onto the Means of Escape route will have to be a minimum of 30 mins and self-closing for a relatively low risk premises.
