Posted By Steve Conway I'm interested in views from anyone who has considered or introduced navigation systems to help guide drivers to their destination, in particular - is it an effective way of reducing the distraction risks associated with trying to read a map? Thanks Steve

Posted By Peter Batty We use satellite navigation systems, and they reduce the "stress" in attempting to find an address in a busy city centre. The system also offers a choice of routes, to the location and recalculates should an incorect turning be taken, making the flicking of road map whilst on the move obselete (I know none of us do this do we and neither do our co-workers)... However they also introduce new risks, they could be distracting depending on how they are mounted in the vehicle, and the temptation to enter a new route whilst on the move needs to be overcome. The maps do not always have the latest road additions, for example the M6 toll road, the Thrapston bypass. (Tom Tom3 Software). Overall I think they are help. Peter.

Posted By Robert. Sat nav, mob phones! Are'nt they both a distraction? Some folk were being penalised for eating or drinking (water) at the wheel in recent months. Is sat-nav really that important in the UK? Is it a (poor) substitute for pre-planning? It's not much different to watching a DVD while driving. Surely the other road users and pedestrians are at risk. Excellent if your travelling across EU and beyond though. Pre-plan in UK I say.

Posted By Joe Hardiment I use a Tom Tom sat Nav in my car. Available from dabs.com for around £300 all in. It is brilliant and saves a lot of stress and distratcion. No it does not come under DSE as far as I know. I would recommend it to anyone, hassle free driving. Cheers Joe
