Can anyone tell me whether there are any requirements under the PPE 2002 Regulation, for persons who’s job entails or might entail wearing breathing apparatus, that they should be required to pass a medical.
Apologises don’t have a copy of the PPE ACoP handy.

Can't tell you the regulations but I have always required BA users to pass a medical, specifically heart and lung function.

The info that you require is not specifically required anywhere in that even CoSHH [where the ACoP does briefly mention fitness] doesn't lay done prescriptive standards or requirements.
Essentially, the employer must undertake a risk assessment to determine the actual standards necessary for their operatives undertaking their activity in their equipment! Basically, an emergency response SCBA wearer will require a far more stringent fitness standard than an operative who has to be able to wear an ELSA to exit a risk.
"BS 4275 - The Selection & Use of RPE" is an extremely helpful document in this area; as is HS[G] 53.
