Has anyone been on either of these accident investigation courses or have any information on them that may be able to help me set up an accident management system?

I've used teh Kelvin Top set stuff and it is veryu good - for serious incidents. It gives you a basis for causal tree analysis and doesn't use non standard terminology like the 'Taproot' system does (I've just done that course and hope never to have to use it). I don't know anything about the Tripod course/system so cant really comment. But I would reccomend Kelvin Top Set. Just thin it it out a bit for minor stuff otherwise you'll get a seventeen page report for a hammer strike on someones thumb.

Have done the Kelvin TOPSET, found it to be very usefull and easily adapted for 'minor' incident investigations.

Have done the TOPSET course and once the instructors get past the 'war stories' phase its actually very good. Excellent for methodology for major incidents but can be too much for lesser events.

Hi All,

I have used Kelvin Top Set now for many years and always get good, clear unambiguous results.

It has now been picked up by my firm after they were scouting round for something to replace known deficiencies in the old way of working.

Such has been the success that we have worked with them to refine a quick version for the lower level (hit thumb with hammer) type incidents, and are currently working with them to develop a further enhancement for incidents of a particular type that are an issue in my industry,.

An added bonus is that the instructors may have ‘war stories’ but you KNOW they are experienced professionals.

I would thoroughly recommend them, to anyone who is looking for something to help in this area without reservation.

Where can you get info on this course, I wouldn't mind giving it a go. I will be starting my Dip4 in September and part of the syllabus is Cause Tree Analysis, on which I can find very little understandble info. I understand the concept, but would like to learn how to put it into practice.
