Posted By Kendo Could anyone help out with the following subject, 'How to encourage and promote individual responsibility in general Health and Safety'. I have been reading through some of my old notes from NEBOSH cert course of 5 years ago and am asking now if anyone could help out with some more up to date material. I have to compile a short presentation on the subject and would welcome any sugestions.

Posted By Vaila Mackenzie This is like a NEBOSH question really: communication, co-operation, control and competence are the obvious answers. I'v found that a mixture of the stick and carrot approach works sometimes: an explanation of how safety benefits the company in tangible ways ie the economic and moral side of the safety argument and how all individuals can play their part in improving h&s. on the other side there is the 'you have to do it, its the law' but this way has its drawbacks. making h&s a line responsibility and using proactive targets can also help.

Posted By Eric PD i agree partly think of the LEgal moral and economic reasons for buying in. You may want to consider the human factors also , consider SKETO, skill knowledge experience training, Spame , skill perception attitiude motivation experience, alos consider hale and hale . As an extra consider generic error modelling. , maslo and fishbein and ajzens theories. They will regret ever asking you after that lot.

Posted By Kendo Thanks to all who replied, it has given me some food for thought and a better idea of what to put into the presentation at the interview. Thanks Ron for the wed address. I found it very interesting and useful. Now I just have to put it all together into an eight minute presentation and hope for the best. Thanks again to all. Ken
