Posted By Joanne Vaughan Having recently assessed a school plant room (which includes pool filters/treatment), could anyone point me in the right direction for some good guidance regarding plant room safety?. I have trawled through all the HSE Swimming pool guidance and other various docs, but was hoping for something a bit more specific. Or, just put me out of my misery and tell me one does not exisit and I will have to write my assessment from scratch!!. Thank you Jo,

Posted By Jeff Watt Hi Jo A colleague of mine (Paul Hackett) from my diploma days runs a consultancy business. He is ex LEA and I know he has a long history in maintenance and safety related issues around swimming pool equipment. http://www.top-lodge.co.uk/tc1.html The address takes you to his website. If your stuck and need to spend money to get an expert in the first time to set you up you could do worse. Waste water treatment plants share a lot of typical filteing equipment etc that may also be a source of info you could search the net for. Jeff

Posted By Mark B Hi Joanne, Apart from HSG179 Health and Safety in Swimming Pools, you could try the Pool Water Treatment Advisory Group. www.pwtag.org Most of the guidance available deals with the actual pool water treatment process or the swimming pool environment, and not the plant room risks. You may be better just breaking it down into groups i.e. COSHH, Manual Handling, Nosie, Dust etc etc. or into tasks carried out in that environment. A lot will depend on what chemicals the pool is using for disinfection and ph correction etc. Hope this helps regards, Mark.
