Posted By Rachel West I just had an amusingly pushy sales call from a young lady who wanted carry out a consultancy exercise for my company on "all the new changes to Health and Safety Legislation". The salesperson had already targetted the company CEO and after failing to put me into a state of unease over my knowledge of current H&S Legislation, she became quite threatening insinuating that I should speak to my CEO as she'd been referred to me by him. I've read a few warnings from different sources of companies cashing in on compliancy packs and the like with small to medium enterprises. This came across as a very similar set up to me. I'm sure a legitimate company would use much more positive sales techniques (or perhaps I'm being a little naive on that front!). Has anyone else had a similar experience? I'm currently kicking myself as I didn't jot down the company name!

Posted By Merv Newman We have a company (and family) policy of politely refusing to answer questions or arrange any meetings over the telephone if we have not initiated the contact. We ask them to write with full information or a list of the questions. They never do. N.B. For any telemarketers out there : Saturdays and Sundays politeness goes out of the window and in comes Bun Bun. (google it) Merv

Posted By Robert Hayes Hi Rachel I haven't suffered this type of thing myself but you aren't on your own, I know of a few people who have had the same high-pressure sales technique levelled at them. The HSE occassionally run similar stories in there news section: http://www.hse.gov.uk/contact/faqs/register.htm http://www.hse.gov.uk/press/2004/e04053.htm Rob

Posted By Nick Higginson Merv I've lost this. No idea what "Bun Bun" is so took your advice and googled it. Apparently, "Bun Bun" is a switchblade wielding rabbit in a comic - I am still non the wiser. Regards Nick

Posted By Rachel West I do believe that switch blade weilding bunnies are fair game for telesales sorts. Especially on weekends. Come to think of it, my response to the sales lady that I could think of better uses of my time than to schedule a consultancy meeting with her may not have helped her attitude.

Posted By Frank Hallett Hi Rachel. There are a growing pool of extremely aggressive [though sometimes nicely - they're worse actually] marketers[!] pushing H&S like a mad fisherman gaffing a fish. Diplomacy takes on a whole different meaning under these circumstances. You should not only contact your local Trading Standards people but also the Federation of Small Businesses and the CBI.
