Hi,
There was certainly a mis-match between available training and HSE guidance some years back. The situation is better now, though courses seem to be quite far apart.
Our nearest centre is Falkirk…….http://tinyurl.com/bh89n
Which offers a one day background course, listed to the right are their week long courses.
http://www.compex.org.uk/ are the organisation behind hazardous area electrics training in the uk, they list JTL approved centres.
Alternatively google uk for CompEx and your local town.
BASEEFA got spun out from the Government some years back, but are still helpful about electrical equipment approvals. http://www.baseefa.com/

A couple of years ago I sent an electrician on a course about hazarodus areas (e.g. zoning, ATEX directives etc) with these people. I make no claims as to whether they are any good but their business involves services related to electrical devices in hazardous areas

Try the EEF sheffield. I attended a course there for electrical equipment in Hazardous areas. The tutor was an ex HSE specialist inspector, and found the course very good. Other branches probably do the course
