One of the site sin my charge has just been recommended for 18001, The hard work is getting management to accept that it is their system not just health and safety responsibility

We are due to have our certification audit on both ISO14001 and OHSAS 18001 at the end of this month (i like a challenge!). The biggest hurdle i have come across is ensuring that staff own the system. Senior management have supported this issue and driven the message down to the shop floor.
The best advise i can give is take your time, don't try to implement complicated systems (simple is best) and to win round staff make yourself known. I have found that showing my face and getting involved in what they do gains you more respect and gets people on your side. When you have their cooperation it makes things a hell of a lot easier. But then i'd be lying if i said that every time i go on the shop floor i don't spot something not quite right. I am not looking to implement the perfect system though. Just one that works and is compliant to the standard and legislation.
Ill be eating my words if we fail at the end of the month!!!!
