Posted By Dave Green Just joined a company cutting bricks into slips. Some are cut into corner slips. Whilst there is guarding above the blade, just above the brick it seems impossible to cut the corner slips without the operators hand being very close to the blade (Agility is required) I am in the middle of a Risk Assessment any thoughts on reducing the risk?

Posted By Frank Hallett Hi Dave You don't identify whether the cutting is done in a fixed location or on site; but the answer has to be essentially the same. For a fixed site activity, you should research the availability of adjustable jigs that can be secured below the blade and adjusted to suit the cut required; thereby removing the operators hand from the blade area For site work a similar approach should be used but may require the provision of a portable workbench to secure the saw and jig in relation to each other. If you don't like that, consider the equivalent of the "push stick" used by operators of saws cutting wood. Frank Hallett

Posted By Dave Green Thank you Frank for such a quick response. The straight through cuts will benifit from a guide and 'Push stick'. I will investigate furtehr the 'Jig' scenario for the 'L' shaped cuts which are essentially two separate cuts. Thank you Dave
