Posted By Descarte We have night kitchens on most of our premises and provisions for people to heat/re-heat their own food. Thus we have have around a dozen microwaves thoughout the region, apart from regular testing and inspection is there a requirement for safety signage on these advising to pierce skins on food etc... I have seen signs like these before (I think they may now come in with new microwaves) and have serached the forums and the net for a similar question and info. I do not have a copy of the Safety signs and signals regs and would like to know if any one knows off hand. Any quick advice would be much appreciated. Many thank Descarte

Posted By Robert S Woods Don't let Clarkson see this! a) put a sign up saying read heating instructions on packet. b) get everyone to buy M&S ready meals they state clearly on the packet that "for your convenience there is no need to pierce film". I would also supply thermometers to ensure that food is hot enough to kill bacteria but not so hot they may burn their mouths.

Posted By Joe Quinn I would slso suggest something to warn people against heating liquids to boiling point as this is particularly dodgy in a microwave.

Posted By Descarte I understand what you are saying, and I would even not go so far as what you are suggesting, following cooking instructions on packaging is quite common sense even for my staff and I would only supply a thermometer if we were preparing food for the public, most microwaves also have on them guidelines for cooking food, temperature settings and timings. Just the hazard of exploding potatoes if not pierced and those scare stories of spontaneously boiling liquids which have been heating and not stirred from the past, seen this sign on the net http://www.sign-maker.ne...ty-sign-images/W5747.gif (sorry for linking to another site) but cannot read the guidance. Thanks Descarte
