Posted By Andrew Porter I'm in the process of updating Risk Assessments and have a query which I'd be grateful for your input on. As we have an extremely effective H&S culture, the majority of hazards in our workplace are already adequately controlled. Should one note these hazards and state the existing controls just 'for the record' or should the Risk Assessment concentrate only on uncontrolled hazards/risks and any remedial action required? I would tend to go for the first option to ensure a more comprehensive record is kept, but would appreciate your input.

Posted By jackw. Hi A bit confused-- if your risks are adequately controlled why re-visit? On the other hand if you feel some are not then a good risk assessment should revisit all aspects, note down the existing control and any additions required to plug the gaps identified by your risk assessment. Cheers

Posted By Andy Petrie Most risk assessments find that the hazards/risks are adequately controlled. It is important to record this however on the off chance that there is an incident, you can state that you were aware of that risk but considered it to be well controlled.
