Posted By Malcolm Napier Cochrane We currently have on our site a joiners workshop with a number of woodwork machinery. We had a consultant last year that produced a risk assessment for us for our mechanical workshop machinery but they would not produce a risk assessment for the woodwork machinery. We are based in the north west (Liverpool) and would welcome any names of companies that you have used yourself (and are suitable) that would be able to produce risk assessments for our woodwork machinery. Look forward to your replies. Malcolm

Posted By Ron Hunter Try the British Woodworking Federation? Remember, whoever you bring in, to look beyond the 'hardware issues' and consider the human and behaviour issues associated with safe operation and maintenance.

Posted By Mark Evans Just a quick piece of advice if you decide to undertake these yourself (you can do so providing you prove competence, machinery suppliers can also help here). Check the HSE website for free guidance leaflets for woodworking available in PDF format. These are a big help as they show all the common machines from saw tables to spindle moulders and clearly show the major risk areas. Also if you want to spend around ten pounds the ACOP L114 available from HSE contains a lot of very good advice. Do not forget local exhaust ventilation, noise and dust (COSHH). I have a fair bit of experience in this field and if you want me to contact you if you need a little more advice post a quick reply to this thread. I would be happy to help

Posted By Sharon Don't forget to take into account retrofitting of brakes to woodworking machines. This link gives more information: http://www.hse.gov.uk/press/2003/e03219.htm
