Posted By Craigy Hi - we have approx 6000 employees and our MD wants to 'reward' all employees for good H&S performance....but we want to send the H&S message into the homes of our employees thru some kind of 'freebie'.......we have thought of (safety) sunglasses, domestic fire extng, general purpose first aid kit..........anyone have any novel ideas???

Posted By Ron Hunter Is there a possibility that this is trivialising such good work & health and safety performance? How are employees rewarded for performing well in other aspects of business delivery? "I improved health and safety performance in my Company and all I got was this lousy tee-shirt!" springs to mind. What about £5x 6000 (a tidy sum) going towards improvements in the workplace or investment in employee welfare, social club/works trips etc.?

Posted By Mark Talbot All of the above are good, but Carbon Monoxide detectors are still rare items in the home, and could be very useful [except in non-gas houses]. Low/medium cost too. If the budget allows, an RCD is another... Of the ones you mention I favour the extinguisher - or perhaps a fire blanket?

Posted By Mark Talbot Hmm, I see the synical side, but I think it is also laudible to try to move an emphasis into the home too - many accidents occur at home and impact on the workplace. What about a newsletter article asking the workforce's opinion?

Posted By Craigy Ron / Mark...many thanks for the input. Ron i do see where you are coming from and this is what we have discussed with the trade union....the important factor in this excercise is to take to H&S message into the home environment.......we also are running a colouring in competition for kids to design a poster for 'playing safe'.....and these will form a calendar for next year which will be sent out to all employees......... For some background, we managed to achieve a freq rate of 0.8...a significant milestone within the group of companies we operate.... Thanks again....any more ideas / thoughts are greatly appreciated

Posted By Adam Jackson We've used foldable garden chairs with a very small subtle company logo on them so people don't feel daft using them at home. We 've given away barbeque kits, flasks, watches and a load of other stuff. There are always some who say "I don't want this [expletive deleted]" but they are always the minority and it does work. The chairs worked the best. We didn't use the safety glasses route as employees can have safety glasses (and disposable masks) from us for their personal use at home any time, including tinted ones.

Posted By Bill Bircham Hi Craig, A suitably marked up Maglite torch is an affordable and practical ‘gift’ that no-one says “I don’t want this [expletive deleted]” to. They are always practical, even if just left in the glove box, the kitchen drawer, by the fuse box, in the tool box, shed etc. Prices are reasonable now as well, even if customised with company logo and well done messages. Posted By Adam Jackson People always appreciate a car. If you go to your local Ford dealer I'm sure they'd do you a few quid off a Focus or something if you're ordering a number of them. Probably put your company logo on it for free as well. Hope this helps?

Posted By Linda Crossland-Clarke Hi In the past we have distributed a one person first aid kit to be kept in the car, and money off vouchers from a certain optician, that can be used by anyone and on any type of glasses inc sun glasses. Linda
