Can anyone tell me where I can find out what should be fitted into a disabled toilet, as regards the specification of hand rails, height of wash basins, mirrors, other mobility aids etc.
Is this covered in H+S legislation under Workplace regs' or is it more under building regs'. Any help would be gratefully received.

I have the building regs at home and have pulled out the section relating to disabled toilets in the past for someone. Its on my computer somewhere and gives the specs for handrails, door widths, spacing, etc. I'll e-mail it to you tonight.
(PS. Wait for the Politically Correct Bandwagon to roll up with a petulant whine that a 'disabled toilet' is a toilet which doesn't work... :) )

It's not the PC bandwagon by the way; this is a joke (the non-PC crowd often have the same sort of soh amputations that some PC people have) which I first heard cracked by a stand-up comic with CP. What, incidentally does PC mean nowadays? I've even heard attacks on speed cameras prefixed with 'I don't mean to be non-PC but...' It now seems to be a catch-all description for anything the Daily Bile doesn't like. That's me off mi soapbox.
Disabled toilets will be found in building regs which can be downloaded free from http://www.odpm.gov.uk/s...odpm_buildreg_page.hcsp,
John

It have started out as a joke, but when I was fishing around the web last year looking into this I came across a council website (one of the Liverpool ones I think) which had exactly that quote in their internal policy document. Cue much swearing at the computer monitor.

Fair enough Adam, LAs can be just a wee bit po-faced at times (thank the Lord I work in the voluntary sector!)

Going to nick the PC thread here as is appears the initial question has been answered.
Did anyone see the teacher who wanted to ban the word 'fail' in classrooms and replace it with 'defered success'.
I like the idea of this and think we could apply it across the H&S board.
No longer do we have fatal accidents, we have defered life incidents.
Instead of a road crash we could have a defered journey incident.
No more derailments on the trains, we could have defered route incidents.
Keep them coming folks..

Falls would presumably be deferred support incidents,

Was that deferred access?
Does that mean that those consultants, who have been winding up some in our ranks, who don't have the diploma or NVQ etc are deferred MIOSH? Can that be put as letters after their names? dMIOSH?
