Posted By John Hi all, Wonder if you can help! I've almost finished writiing a first aid risk assessment for my company (3 pages so far)and would like to compare it with some others. I have included topics such as: Description of Activity, Persons at risk, Hazards, Risk analysis and evaluation, Arrangements, Planning and Organisation, Training, Accident review. I work in the manufacturing industry and would appreciate any other guidance you may have. Thanks in anticipation. J

Posted By Charley Farley-Trelawney John With respect I am just a tad puzzled that you have a 3 page RA on First Aid, what part of FA are you assessing; the availability or lack of? Again, with respect you would seem to have identified quite a bit in the RA, and come up with some good examples, Have a look at the following, it may be of help to you: * Identify the hazard/s (if any) * Decide who may be harmed and how including any special categories of persons, i.e. Young Persons, Nursing & expectant Mothers, Disabled, Employees, Visitors, Contractors, Public, (both invited and not invited. * Evaluate the risks arising from the hazards and decide if the existing control measures are suitable and sufficient or indeed further measures should be considered * Record your findings * Inform all concerned of your findings and make sure you involve all concerned in the general production, (it makes for a thorough RA) * Review the RA and revise as necessary. When complete, a simple method for assessing risk with and without further control measures is from Fatality down to No injury and a risk rating, High, Med, Low 'crunch' the numbers and you have a sensible assessment. In terms of First Aid I do have an assessment here but it only covers a double A4 and has very little on it, I consider that the hazards and risks are at an absolute minimum. I have a responsibility for over 2000 persons in all cats detailed above; to date no incidents have occurred with regard to FA that prompts me to review any earlier than 12 monthly, if however I had many problems I would review earlier. Make sure with FA that you consider: shift patterns, Hospital location, trained FA persons, adequate supplies of FA equipment, rest room etc etc, not definitive just meant to be an example. If I can be of any assistance to you don't hesitate to ask Best wishes Charles

Posted By Robert. The response CFT is spot on although went on like a 3 page assessment. Begs the question---who, in their right mind would want to read through 3 pages of a RA based on first aid. Is it a risk averse (popular safety buzz word at the moment) assessment?

Posted By Charley Farley-Trelawney Robert Just trying to give a reasonable answer, if it read like a "3 page risk assessment" I was just attempting to give a thorough answer, help was after all requested! Thanks for the "spot on" though. Charles
