Cages for Festoon Lighting on Construction Sites

Can anybody advise me whether festoon lamps have to be caged on construction sites (internal or external) please? I know they have to comply with BS 6726, but I haven't been able to find out what BS 6726 actually contains. We have some lamps on cables that have lost most of their cages and want to know whether we can still use them. Thanks.

We stopped using festoons years ago. They lean onto prefinished doors and leave burn marks when the cages are missing - which happens all the time.

There is still a need for "festoon lighting" in many circumstances - not just traditional construction activities. Unless the elect supply is of a "safety voltage" type all luminaires [and the cable] should be adequately protected against foreseeable contact and damage of all types.
If there are unprotected ordamged or missing bulbs or luminaires or fittings the equipment patently fails to comply with the EaW Regs, PUWER and the users have failed miserably to comply with MHSW!
