Posted By Derek Holt For those of you looking to work in Australia or those who collect letters after their name! The Safety Institute of Australia have informed me that they recognise MIOSH, therefore allowing membership of their organisation. Details of membership can be found at: http://www.sia.org.au/index.htm

Posted By Hazel Harvey Jim, You can't get the American designation with MIOSH, the reciprocle arrangment with them only comes into effect in November when the Chartered MIOSH is introduced and even then you have to do an examination. I don't know where this Australian arrangement has come from it's not a reciprocle one, we won't give them IOSH membership based on their membership of SIA. As MIOSH will be phased out at the end of 2007 then they need to be looking a bit harder at what they accept.

Posted By Hazel Harvey Rob, My information is relating to the BCSP and the CSP designation. The ASSE may well accept MIOSH,RSP for their membership purposes, again we will not accept their membership for our Chartered level only the CSP and even then they will need to undertake our open asessment.

Posted By Derek Holt Let me clarify for all, You can join the ASSE if you are a MIOSH or higher. The ASSE membership does not have post nominal letters. CSP is a different animal altogether. Hazel has kindly informed me that you will need to sit the comprehensive practice examination, (200 mulitple choice questions) to gain entry. If succesful you can then use CSP after your name. You can join the SIA if you are MIOSH or above, including the new to be CMIOSH at the level of member. There are no reciprocal arrangements between IOSH and SIA. SIA recognise the IOSH membership criteria on there own merits.
