Posted By Michael Hosking Have had one in place for many years so not looking to borrow/plagerise anything. Policy content teaching has been set in stone for many years: Statement of Intent, Organisation and Arrangements. See have done all the IOSH/NEBOSHH cert and dip course. The thing that I feel as changed has been the style of the Statement away from the old style to a more modern mission statement from the "Supreme boss". I hope that other modern thinking professionals will recognise and agree that the older statements tended to list all of section 2, 7 and 8, are a bit archaic and do not promote current thinking. Hope so as I ammended ours a few years back know to the mision statement style signed by the CEO/MD. If there are others out there of the same mind would you be willing to send me electronic verision of your statement. Reason is that others are proposing ammendments that lean towards the older style and it would be useful if I could prodcue some evidence of other statements that follow the more modern style. If I am wrong I wll have to go back to the drawing board, but I do not feel that this would be the case Look forward to some good networking and hopefully a few examples supporting my modern thinking.

Posted By Lilian McCartney Hi Michael, I initally thought same as you but then decided to have the old style statement of intent and a letter to all employees from CX/Board Chair combined which is in the more personal style. It's my arrangements I have made user friendlier, hopefully.

Posted By Ciaran McAleenan Michael In my opinion you are on the right track; I have set out below a statement that I have been using and modifying for some time now. Ciaran MODEL H&S POLICY STATEMENT 1. is committed to the pursuit of good management practices in every aspect of its business and as such we apply our H&S management with sincerity, integrating it fully into our strategic planning process. 2. As well as complying with statutory H&S obligations our management arrangements conform to international best practice as a way of ensuring that the highest standards of H&S integrate with our business performance. 5. recognises that employee competence is the consistent skilful application of skills and knowledge to any specified work operation the achievement of which requires the provision of sufficient resources and the exercise of appropriate decision making. 6. We promote co-operation and communication across and between competent management and staff at all levels using team meetings, management meetings, local consultative committees and specially constituted groups, as necessary. 7. Posted By Robert K Lewis Still see a lot of the old style around and their real problem is that they can imply that legal compliance is the sole aim of the company. There is no committment to improving upon the bare minmum. All the HSE documents envisage some definitive committment to exceeding standards where reasonable to do so. Bob
