Has anyone experience/dealings in this area of manufacturing, in particular, life-cycle assessments and sustainability checklists?

Some questions are easy - others are like this!

The detail behind these activities is vaste and you need to start at the design phase considering how long the item is going to last, how it can be recycled at the end of its life, and the ease of dismantling for recycling. You will need to second guess the recycling techniques available at the end of the life cycle and their cost.

Then move on to the production efficiency and energy usages, including the recycling phase. Some of the figures will be guesstimates at best.

This is going to be a real team effort with your design, production and sales people. There are one or two consultancies in this area but would need to know more detail before I could suggest any names.

Hi Bob,
I realised it wasn't one of the easier questions due to everyone's silence!

I'm fairly new to this area of work as well and was reading some guiance from Envirowise about the WEEE & RoHS directives which use the terms I mention above.

I just wondered if these were questionnaire's which industry use and someone may have had!

Hi Jane,

Agree entirely with what Robert was saying about getting all the team on board.

Also try Envirowise Cleaner Design guidance, they also do some workshops on the sunject which would maybe help. But you would be looking at quite a large task (and not an easy one).

Hi Carrie,
It was from Envirowise's website that I read about all this. They've got quite a lot of good free information actually.
