Posted By Ian Clay1 I am after some guidance on the mainbtenance of sand play areas, play areas where the safety surface is a sand base. I have lots of RoSPA guidance and have my interpratation of maintenance, but would like any other operators of these type of play areas to pass on any information. The costs and time of maintenance seem enormous and the benefits of rubber safety surfaces seem to outweigh the use of sand. Any help would be welcome. Many thanks

Posted By Bill Elliott Ian - BS EN 1176 part 7 and BS EN 1177 apply and cover maintenance in some depth, you may also get some useful information form the Association of Play Industires try www.playindustries.org.uk, they produce a number of guides for their members. One of which is entitled "The Provision of Rubber and Loose Fill Impact Absorbing Surfaces" .
