Sorry, couldn't resist the pun!
I need some clarification I think. Because there is a transitional period, are the Regs saying it is acceptable to exceed the ELV up to 2010/14 for kit provided for use before 2007?
If so, then I assume it must be heavily anticipated that most kit will exceed these levels?

another query as well...what do the exposure terms m/s(2) mean?
Also, i've had a look on invc's website and they have quite a useful table, however, I am confused at the yellow table on the left which details the following info:
"safe" Daily use time limits
The following table illustrates te reduced 'safe' working times.
Current New
8 hours 3 hrs 8 mins
1 hour 24 mins
15 mins 6 mins
I'm confused, why have they mentioned current and new times?
I think I must completely be missing the point here, just not obvious when i'm trying to get to grip with the regs!

Try the HSE via this address.
http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg175.pdf.
m/s2 (metres per second squared) is the rate of change of speed (acceleration) that the user feels from the vibrating tool. The higher the acceleration, the greater the damage. Hence 2.5 m/s2 is okay over 8 hours, while higher levels of acceleration need be controlled with shorter times of exposure.

Thanks Clive, I have looked at the HSE's website, and all the publications that go with it. It's reading everything on there that lead me to my question about the delayed implementations dates.
Incidentally, the HSE's website doesn't help me with my INVC website query.

'current' means under the old guidance of 2.8m/s2 as a vector sum, whereas 'new' is for the new regs value (2005) of 2.5m/s2 as the dominant axis. So it's comparing the impact of the 'old' guidance against the new regs. they obviously haven't updated the info since the new regs came into force.

Ah right, by old guidance, I assume you mean HSG publications as there weren't regulations until this July?
