Posted By James K NSO ?? There is an organisation in Ireland called the National Irish Safety Organisation (NISO) NISO is a voluntary body, Reg. Charity No. 5573 in Ireland. NISO, The National Irish Safety Organisation, is a voluntary body dedicated to the promotion of Health and Safety in Irish workplaces. NISO aims to promote measures designed to safeguard persons at work against occupational dangers to life, limb and health which in turn promotes safety, health and welfare in the workplace. Founded in 1963 and organised on a regional basis with its head office based in Dublin, NISO has the support of the Health and Safety Authority, Irish Congress of Trade Unions, Irish Business Employers Confederation and the Irish Insurance Federation- each of whom has a nominee on the NISO National Executive. The organisation is membership based and currently has approximately 1800 members from all areas of industry and commerce in areas such as manufacturing, services, unions, semi-state bodies, local authorities and the health / education sectors. Membership of NISO is open to all organisations. They hold annual competitions whereby members may be gain awards for Excellence in Occ. H&S in their workplace, based on their submissions and possible site visits by the organisation. www.niso.ie should gt you there. Hope this is of some help. Jim

Posted By Ted O'Keeffe I head up the "National Irish Safety Organisation" based in Dublin and are a charity, details as per one of your response postings (thanks James). Recently, we have received a number of complaints from three companies in Ireland about callers from what they all described as "National Safety Organisation". The complainers all stated that there were a minimum of two callers involved who rang many times and were abusive. One complainer said that it sounded as if they were calling from a call centre. In all cases, their number did not register on Caller Display. It was not clear what they were trying to sell but threatened the sending of inspectors to the complainers' workplace. We have tried to follow up as it has been giving our organisation a bad name but to no avail. Hence my interest. If anyone has received such a phone call, I would be interested in hearing.

Posted By Adam Jackson We had a phone call from them this morning. The caller said they were from the National Safety Organisation which is part of the DTI, and were phoning to confirm our address so they could send updates of European health and safety directives. The chap who got the call immediately thought it sounded false and said he'd put them through to the H&S Manager, at which point the caller said "I haven't got time for this" and put the phone down. Nice people.

Posted By Jayne Dunn There is an organisation (can't remember name) phoning round to ask if H&S companies wish to go onto their list of approved suppliers for schools etc. at a cost of £1000 ! Not sure if its the same crowd but sounds dodgy to me. Jayne

Posted By Jim Haveron Good morning, As the Chair of the Shopping Centre Management Group, BCSC Scotland this is the message that I sent out to my colleagues to inform them of this issue. I will also copy it to the BCSC head office in London so that they can raise this at higher level and they should then send it round the various regional groups. Extract from email sent to Group on Monday 24th October 2005: I have just received a phone call from the National Safety Organisation. At first it seemed like a genuine call and the female stated that they were from the Government and that they were putting together safety notices and publications which she wanted to send out to us. She wanted to speak to the H&S manager or the facilities manager or the centre manager. When I asked her if this was a sales pitch she went off on a real tangent and threatened to "close our building down". Of course as I had never heard of this organisation I called my surveyor, just in case!! However, I put a search into Google and it did not find such an organisation. What it did find was this item from the IOSH as a discussion topic. I would recommend you to open this link and be aware that such calls are being made. http://www.iosh.co.uk/in...=1&thread=14937&page=331 As a new member to this formum I would like to thank the originator of this 'thread' and the IOSH for bringing this topic to the public attention. Regards Jim Haveron Centre Manager Westside Plaza Shopping Centre Edinbrugh

Posted By Nikki I had a word with someone in senior management at HSE. This is one of a series of scams that the HSE are aware of. Check out - http://www.hse.gov.uk/press/2005/e05012.htm
