I’m looking to purchase a HAV vibration measuring kit.
Can anyone help with recommendations of models or types to avoid?
All help much appreciated.

I've used a Castle GA2003 pocket HARM meter which is easy to use except it will only do a single axis at a time so you have to do 3 runs and change the axis each time if you want all 3 axes. My colleague has used the Castle GA2001 which does tri-axial measurements and he's found it works well.
Another to consider is the Larson Davis HVM100 - i've used it for WBV measurements and, once you've figured out how to program it, it is very versatile (need HAV and seatpad accelerometers to do both these though). As far as I'm aware it's the only one which will do WBV by the VDV method as well as the A(8) method but this won't be of interest if you're only looking at HAV. Can hire this from Ashtead technology.
See if you can get a free try-before-you-buy!

Your talking serious money here whichever meter you decide on, along with competency and refesher training on correct use, time spent out in the field doing measurements, preparing reports, meter calibration, etc.
You could get a lot of consultancy time for the same money, or you could purchase the INVC noise and vibration database (with update options) for much the same outlay.
(Just a thought- I've no vested interest either way)
